I have a few updates to pass your way. First, we are offering a 25% discount with coupon code "Kickstarter" at http://store.magskin.com through the completion of our Kickstarter campaign. Secondly, we have arranged rental time for a MakerBot Replicator 2 to print iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 magnetic cases. These cases will be printed in PLA plastic and will be offered in many of the original colors.
Glow-in-the-dark iPhone cases will also be printed in white (glow yellow) and light blue (glow blue). Final pricing is not complete for these cases, but will probably be under $30 for Kickstarters. Preorders have begun at store.magskin.com following the Kickstarter campaign, special offers will be available for supporters of the MagSkin Case on Kickstarter.
Thank you for your support!

With only 4 hours and $4k still need for our Kickstarter project, we are preparing to release preorders for the magnetic iPhone case in the next couple days. Preorders for the MagSkin Case will begin on Friday morning, with orders shipping the last week of May. Color availability may be limited, but currently the plan is to offer both the glow-in-the-dark iPhone case versions since they have sparked the most interest.

Magnetic iPhone Case
After developing a magnetic iPhone skin, many have requested a magnetic iPhone backing for a specific case. There are many different iPhone cases, and supporting these is quite cumbersome and difficult. Many iPhone cases don't support a magnetic skin since the back of the case is not completely flat like the iPhone. I decided to design my own iPhone case, incorporating a magnet into the case while still keeping the case quite thin.

MagSkin Case Kickstarter Project
Magnetic Case for iPhone 4/4S/5, MagSkin Case [Kickstarter Link]
Why Kickstarter?
I'm a mechanical engineer and techie with an entirely metal desk, and have been applying magnets to my touchscreen device ever since they were added to the SmartCover. As many of you know, after many friends asking me to make them a magnetic backing...I decided to turn it into a successful Kickstarter project. After launch a MagSkin internet store, I have received many requests to integrate the MagSkin to support many unique iPhone cases.
A collegue recently gained access to a 3D printer, so I blew the dust off of my 3D modeling skills to try to merge the MagSkin into a thin workable case for the iPhone. A first, I thought that embedding neodymium magnets behind the case to 'hide' the magnetic capabilities. PLA and ABS plastic was quickly found to be difficult to print thin enough for a thin neodymium magnet to be functional, inadequate friction on the exterior caused the case to slip.
This led me to embrace the high strength magnetic material on the exterior, and make it aestheticly pleasing with the striping on the back of the case. Test printing has been performed for the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5 3D models for form/fit/function.
Kickstarter Funding Use?
Goal is for approximately 200 units to justify the purchase of a high quality, industrial strength 3D printer which runs from $2000 to $5000. Here is a breakdown for how the funds raised will be used should the kickstarter goal be reached:
50% for 3D Printer
20% for PLA Material
20% for Packaging/Shipping
5% for Amazon
5% for Kickstarter

Glow Magskins
After a few requests, I'm happy to introduce a new product in our lineup of MagSkins. The glow-in-the-dark iPhone Magnet Skin by popular demand.
Offering 40% off ANY PURCHASE until the end of February!
Code: GlowMag
MagSkins are available in a yellow/green glow and a blue glow. Both require around 30 min to 60 min to charge (FYI they don't charge very well in your pocket) and will last 5 - 6 hours. The glow-in-the-dark iPhone magnet will help you locate your iPhone at a dark bar on responding to a late-night text.

Kickstarter Experience
As many of you already know, this Magnetic iPhone skin was funded on Kickstarter in 20 days with a realistic goal of just over $5,000. I was certainly overwhelmed with the 350+ backers that supported this project idea, and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to deliver on the dates I promised.
I am happy to say that I was able to finish shipping all of the iPhone 4/4S & iPad MagSkins within 6 weeks of closing, and all iPhone 5 MagSkins were shipped within weeks after the release of the new iPhone. Some things have changed around Kickstarter with other significant project timeline delays (i.e. Pebble, HiddenRadio), but this shouldn't keep you from giving Kickstarter a try.
Would I use Kickstarter again? I actually have another project in the works, and would love to use Kickstarter again. I'll keep everyone informed of the project status, etc.
